If you don't require your poles to be longer than about 4 feet (125 cm), these poles will be lighter because you don't carry the extra (never used) length inside. They seem to be the lightest aluminum poles I've seen.
They also compact to 21 inch length disassembled (a quick, easy operation) and fit conveniently in carry-on luggage.
There is no shock absorber, so if you really want that, you can buy the slightly longer and heavier model with shock.
I am a regular hiker with a leg damaged 40 years ago. I've used poles for much of those years. These are light and work really well for me. They look like the same pole that was sold previously as the compact model.
